Description

"A miniature icon topped with queenly crown is dedicated to one of the most noble and revered images of the Mother of God images – icon ""«Most-Holy Queen of All» (Pantanassa)."" On this icon the Mother of God is shown seating on the royal throne. In Her hands she holds the Christ Child with a scroll in His left hand. Jesus Christ keeps His right fingers in blessing gesture. The Mother of God points to Her Kingly Son as to the Savior. On both sides of the throne there stand two angels worshipping the Blessed Virgin reverently.

The wonder working icon Pantanassa resides in Vatopedi monastery at the Holy Mount Athos in Greece. It was painted in 17th century with the blessing of the monastic elder Joseph Hesychast.  The Greek name Pantanassa – Queen, or Domina of All – itself indicates its special all-embracing force.

According to legend, the icon was glorified as a wonder worker after a demon-possessed young man being fond of magic and sorcery was healed. He entered the temple, came to the image of the Mother of God, and started sputtering something. Suddenly the face of the Blessed Virgin began to shine glaring light, the young man being thrown to the ground by an unseen force. The poor one ran out of the temple, and with tears began to repent of sorcery. Thus the Mother of God through Her image has identified a miracle, putting the young man on the path of repentance.

Later, people began to notice that praying to Pantanassa icon helps fighting against cancer. The disease not always run its course entirely, but often slows down or stops on the stage at which a person appealed for help to the Mother of God. Cancer care has been so effective that the icon dispersed all over the world in many copies. By the prayers of the faithful many of those copies had also begun to make miracles of healing that do continue until now.

Prayer to the Mother of God in her Pantanassa image is written on the reverse of the small icon: ""Oh, Pantanassa, you pray for me."" Above the prayer the image of Guardian Angel is placed, gently carrying the human soul as an infant in his hands.

Every baptized person is given the Guardian Angel, that life-time invisibly remains in the proximity of him (her). The ministry of the Guardian Angel is not only to protect the person, but also contribute to the salvation of his (her) soul. Therefore, the Guardian Angel spiritually confirms the person in his (her) faith and prays for him (her). Being constantly at one's elbow, Guardian Angel secretly instructs the person and raises his (her) prayer to God. It protects the person not only at his (her) will, but by itself also guards him (her) against visible and invisible enemies, intercedes for him (her) before God.

The Guardian Angel care of the human soul can be compared to the mother care of the child. Therefore, in 16th century in the Orthodox iconography there appeared the image of an Angel gently carrying a human soul in its arms. But just as parents are unable to influence the lives of their adult child, so the Guardian Angel is unable to help a person without his (her) own desire – every person has a free will. A believer must always pray to his (her) Angel, thank and honor it, ask for protection and assistance.

The image was created by artist Roman Daruev and creative team of the “Akimov” Company."
