Description

On the front side of the small icon there is an icon of the holy righteous Anna, tenderly hugging her Daughter, the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Saint Righteous Anna and the wife of her Saint Joachim, the parents of the Most Holy Theotokos, as the ancestors of Christ, are called "Godfathers" and at the end of each church service they pray for intercession and help. The story of their life and how their daughter, the Most Pure Mother of God, was born, is narrated in the Holy Tradition of the Church and in the proto-Gospel of Jacob.

It is said that Joachim and Anna were of noble family, but belonged to the category of ordinary Israelites and did not enjoy any advantages. Joachim was a descendant of King David, Anna - the high priest Aaron. They were hardworking and God-fearing, had prosperity in the house and would be happy if the Lord had not deprived them of their offspring. In Old Testament times, the absence of children was considered the greatest punishment of God. The law even forbade accepting gifts and sacrifices from childless parents, like those rejected by God, and therefore worthy of all contempt. And this "reproach of dishonor" the pious spouses endured until old age. Finally, Joachim decided to go into the wilderness in order to pray with God for mercy with a severe fast. Left alone, Anna went into the garden. And now she, raising her eyes to Heaven, saw a sparrow's nest on the tree and began to cry, saying: “Woe is me, who gave birth to me? What bosom brought me into the world? For I became a curse to the children of Israel, and with mockery I was rejected from the temple. Woe to me, who am I like? I am not like the birds of the air, for the birds of the air have offspring with You, Lord. I am not like dumb creatures, for even dumb creatures have offspring with you, Lord. I am not like these waters, for the waters also bear fruit with Thee, Lord. Woe to me, who am I like? I am not like the earth, for the earth bears fruit in due season and blesses You, Lord. " And then the Archangel Gabriel appeared before her and announced to her that she would have a daughter. The same was announced to Joachim. The delighted couple met and made a vow to dedicate their daughter to God.

For three years the elders brought up little Mary, and in the third year they took her by vow to the Jerusalem temple. A few years after that, at the age of 80, St. Joachim died, St. Anna moved to live in a church, where she spent two years with her daughter and reposed quietly at 79 years old.

Commemoration takes place on August 9 (25), September 22 (9), December 22 (9).

On the reverse side of the icon is the text of the prayer to the righteous Anna: "Holy saint of God Anna, pray to God for me, a sinner."

A miniature icon can be worn as an independent product, or you can supplement it with an enamel pendant called a tsata. This is a semicircle ornament, traditional for Ancient Russia, which is hung from icons and crosses. Our tsats are made of stained glass enamel in different colors. Stained glass enamel is one of the most sophisticated and sophisticated techniques of artistic enameling, which appeared in Russia at the end of the 19th century. It differs from ordinary cloisonné enamel by the absence of a substrate, due to which it acquires transparency and the ability to transmit light, beautifully refracting it.
