"On the obverse of any crucifix there must present the image of Jesus Christ. After all, it was the incarnation of Christ andHis sacrificial death that transformed the cross from an instrument of shameful and agonizing death into the instrument of salvation and eternal life. In this cross the Lord presents on both sides. Symbolically —on one, as the cross of Calvary, obviously —on the other, as the Lord Almighty. Therefore, this cross can be worn on any side.
Let’s consider the side with the image of the Calvary cross. The word ""Calvary"" means “hill”, round like a skull. Christian theology bound Calvary to the skull of Adam, buriedthere according to legend, therefore the skull is often portrayed in the crossbase. The Calvary cross is the main symbol of Orthodoxy.
